  • Time Dilation: A simple mathematical approach

A key part of Einstein's genius lay in his ability to intuit complex phenomena and illustrate them in a way that could be understood by even a relative layman. Here, I have included a video giving a brief overview of how Einstein came up with a special consequence of his Special Theory of Relativity, time dilation. https://youtu.be/8uckG4OPSmA Something worth mentioning is the beauty represented by Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity. The universe is in balance. One can't conventionally approach the speed of light without effecting time. You also can't approach the speed of light without a tremendous output of energy and E = mc^2 shows us that an increase in energy equates to an increase in mass which acts as a feedback loop on the energy keeping us from achieving light speed in any normal way. The beauty of these laws as laid out in the theory are a basis for our understanding of so many things. From planetary movement, to making sure your GPS tracks you accurately. As Bill Nye used to say in his show, Science Rules!

  • NASA Minds: Creating a Simulant for Moon Dust

In the spring of 2021, I took part in a research group whose goal was to create a general purpose lunar regolith, moon dust, simulant for use in testing equipment for the NASA Artemis program. Lunar regolith is a major hurdle to long term habitation on the moon. It's size and properties made it especially pervasive to every aspect of the mission. Astronauts would return from a moon walk and have to dump large quantities of the regolith that had penetrated their suits and equipment. Developing better suits and machines is of key interest to NASA and I was able to be a small part of the team. Besides analysing the result, I was in charge of designing and building the device that we used. The attached video is of myself and one of my advisors testing the device. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/kROm5uxIXHc
